Cradle earth, sky tomb

What do you see in my eyes
Of the wandering phoenix?

What did you read
From my book of bone?

(Etching in modular paneling
Layered accross time)

What did you see in your flight
Over dream meadows in the lingering twilight?

Did you write it on parchment
Or on bark that floats
On the dawn ocean?

Show me the beginning of one chapter:
Draw the shape of life's end
In love's genesis.

Show me the meaning
Of your desire; paint inside
My mind in silence the intention

Dress the vision
In costumes from mythology

In colors from a different world
That make me feel unreal emotions
Not written about

Secret feelings that
Protect their existence
From the lips of the profane

Teach me the way of marrow;
Make me an unctious factory
Of verse quintessential.

Take the flame meandering,
Cull my idle thoughts;

Show the script bewildering
To the lover that was lost.

Poise the questions penned
There & then, gauge the reply:

And fasten the remarks
To my tomb upon the sky.

Notes

Original poetry written by d-pend@d-pend for Steemit and Dsound on February 19, 2018. This one is something of a dreamscape, concerning the magical nature of our incarnation here on Earth and its relation to the vaster reality which escapes our logical comprehension. There is a discontinuity analogous to dreams in the way the poem switches from directly questioning the "other" to making requests of it, and ends with referring to it in third person. The photos were taken by me on hiking trails near Holy Cross Church in Valle Crucis, NC with iPhone 5S and edited using Lunapic.
