Yes, as a child, I remember going to the neighborhood bank, in the late 1950s to early 1960s, to trade a Silver Certificate Dollar, for a US Silver Dollar, only to spend it, for penny candy or penny baseball cards, later. I was too young to appreciate, the rare Carson Cities, but loved the shiny BUs, that were common. Baseball Cards came with one card & one piece of chewing gum, per pack, for one cent. Those good-ole-days were awesome.
