Today, at The Local Chop, one could get one could get "junk" US 90% Silver money, for $20 fiat, on the Dollar. Or a $1 denomination worth of old Silver Coins (1964 or older), for twenty bucks. Let me put it this way, one could have got this US Silver Washington Quarter Dollar:

Yes, the Quarter has a dreaded fingerprint and the Eagle has a kneecap injury, but without 'em this coin may have been in the display case, instead of the junk box for me to save. Anyway, it's mine now.
