Yes, there is a lot to be said about professionally graded, numismatic coins. One example is a "very fine" 1926-S Mercury/Liberty Dime, valued at $45 vs the next grade "extra fine"

Yes, as a child, I remember going to the neighborhood bank, in the late 1950s to early 1960s, to trade a Silver Certificate Dollar, for a US Silver Dollar, only to spend it, for penny candy or penny baseball
