Como cultivador aficionado de palmeras antes de tener que comprar semillas en la web procuro buscar alguna variedad de palmera que me interese cuando tengan los frutos. En este caso son de Washingtonia filifera.
As an amateur palm tree grower, before I have to buy seeds on the web, I try to look for a variety of palm tree that interests me when they bear fruit. In this case they are Washingtonia filifera.
Las ventajas de recolectar de la palmera madre son que las semillas siempre van a ser más frescas que las compradas y que son gratis.
The advantages of collecting from the mother palm are that the seeds will always be fresher than the purchased ones and that they are free.
Los inconvenientes es tener que buscar la variedad deseada que a veces no hay cerca y que hay que limpiar la pulpa y ser más engorroso el proceso de germinado.
The disadvantages are that you have to look for the desired variety, which is sometimes not available nearby, that you have to clean the pulp and that the germination process is more cumbersome.
La palmera Washingtonia filifera crece muy bien en la Península Ibérica y se diferencia de la Washingtonia robusta por tener el tronco más grueso y las hojas terminan con unos hilachos de donde le viene el nombre a esta palmera.
The Washingtonia filifera palm grows very well on the Iberian Peninsula and differs from the Washingtonia robusta in that it has a thicker trunk and the leaves end in threads, hence the name of this palm.
