Named for Nagato Province, was a super-dreadnought battleship.
The ship was launched in 1920 and was modernized in 1934-36 with improvements to its armor, machinery and a rebuilt superstructure.
Nagato was the flagship of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Nagato covered the withdrawal of the attacking ships and did not participate in the attack itself.
Nagato did not participate in the fighting until the end of the war until the Battle of Leyte Gulf,She was lightly damaged during the battle and returned to Japan the following month.
She was assigned to coastal defense duties,when imperial Japan surrendered Nagato is captured.
It was the Japanese flag ship until the biggest battleship "Yamato" was launched on 12 February 1942.

Very powerful battleship. The ship was selected to participate as a target ship in Operation Crossroads, a nuclear weapon tests held at Bikini Atoll.


Nagato survived the first blast, But the second test did not,it was dangerously radioactive, and sank during the night of 29/30 July 1946.
