Hello Hivers!
Do you have a story you read that left you with a good lesson about life?
In my case, I've been reading a series of stories about Aladdin and the Magic Lamp that @vcelier is posting on a regular basis here in Hive. This is not the typical story you see on tv or in movies. This is a translation from a narration of One Thousand and One Nights. The beauty of this translation is that it shows all the details of the story. It was written in a concise manner but you can still appreciate the provided details of Aladdin's journey.
One of the recent chapters is 33rd Night. Here in this chapter Maghrebi gets the Magic Lamp that Aladdin got in the underground vault. The Maghrebi managed to do this by tricking the Princess. The Maghrebi realized that Aladdin was not there to carry out his plan and he was successful in acquiring the Magic Lamp.
I have a comment on the post but because this topic is interesting I want to expand it into a proper post.
Firstly, I want to point out the lesson I learned in this chapter of the story:
My opinion about the first lesson "don't take things for granted" is simple, don't ever be overconfident. From the very beginning, Aladdin knew what Maghrebi was capable of and he also knew how greedy he was. If the magic lamp is very important to him, he should have put it in a place where it will be safe and not be taken by others.
There are things in our lives that we cannot take for granted. One of them is our safety or health. Sometimes even though we know it's bad for us, we still do it. Even by simply eating an unhealthy amount of consumption, we know that it's bad for our health but we neglect the fact that it could cause us disease in the future. So while we are still young then we should start taking care of our health or our safety.
When it comes to "there's no such thing as a guaranteed future", many of us think that we can buy time and we get more opportunities in the future. How do you know that? Why would you need to pass up the opportunity in front of you thinking that there will be other opportunities in the future? Is there a guarantee of that?
A good example is that many people are tirelessly working to save enough money for their retirement. They do this thinking that they will have enough money and time in the future to do the things that they can't do while they are still young. Again, what's the guarantee that you are still able to do the things that you want to do in your life in the future? What if you end up getting a disease that will refrain you from happily doing things that you want to do on your bucket list?
Lastly, "take responsibility for your actions"; we have a habit of blaming others for the misfortunes that we have in life. We blame inflation for the high cost of living at the present time. How come we are not blaming ourselves for not having secured enough income to pay for a lifestyle that we are accustomed to? Why not blame ourselves for not planning our finances in such a way that we can afford a lifestyle fit for us?
All I want to say is that whatever the outcome of our life is because of the decisions we made in the past. We have a choice to direct our lives, what we have is the result of our good or bad choices in the past. That's why we should take accountability for our actions in our lives and find a way to resolve them. We can still change for a better future and we can start now!
I hope my post helped to enlighten your thoughts about the topic I discussed. Keep it up Hivers!
