My #monomad entry: Puentes a ninguna parte / Bridges to Nowhere (ESP/ENG)
🏞️ 🐴 🌳 ENGLISH VERSION 🌳 🐴 🏞️
At the exit of the town, there is a bridge, one that reflects local history like few other things. Its different stages of exploitation, abandonment, and rescue mark the times with surprising clarity.
With concrete pillars and a riveted iron structure, it is a faithful witness to its time and its ups and downs, complete with a water tube that spills it away.
One of the best things it has to offer are the views, as the river flowing beneath it has carved the landscape with infinite patience. Curiously, upstream, you can see two other bridges, but they are so unremarkable that noticing them takes some effort.
Downstream, you can see the remains of yet another bridge, making a total of four along a stretch of river that can’t be more than half a kilometer long.
The only permitted traffic is pedestrian, though daily life has a way of putting things in their place.
On the far side, a sign welcomes visitors to the town, or perhaps bids farewell to those who leave.
Beyond lies "the countryside," that vague border whose meaning shifts over the years, where a statue of a cow watches us with the same Buddhist patience as the bridge.
