Interesting reflection.
Strictly speaking, assets are things that you own which generates income. In Singapore many of us "own" a HDB flat thinking that it is an asset but it is actually not. That is because the HDB flat is generally one's primary residence which cannot be rented out to generate income. Also there is no guarantee that its price will appreciate over time.
Btw, I am not a huge fan of the "Rich Dad Poor Dad" book. Though it teaches essential investment/wealth building concepts, I think it is narrated in a way which encourages people to be materialistic, to chase wealth and not waste time with the "poor". I thought it could have been done in a more objective manner but I guess these stories are needed to spice up the book and made it popular.
