Hello friends, today I want to tell you about the many things I've learned about our sister country, Colombia. I, for one, have had the pleasure of visiting two different places in Colombia five times. About four years ago, I went to Cúcuta to meet a relative, and it was really just a one-day trip, but for the first time I had the pleasure of seeing at least our border.

Hola amigos, hoy quiero contarles las muchas cosas que pude conocer de nuestro país hermano, Colombia. Yo, por mi parte, he tenido el gusto de ir 5 veces a 2 sitios distintos de Colombia. Hace unos 4 años, fui a Cúcuta, a recibir a un familiar, y realmente fue algo de solo un día, pero por primera vez tuve el gusto de conocer al menos nuestra frontera.

Three years ago, after having already visited Cúcuta, and following a minor emotional crisis due to not having seen my sister for so long, I decided to spend December 2023 with her and meet my nephews who live there. I don't have any photos of myself with my sister from that time, but this one was taken on January 31st of this year, at a festival in town, and we went out together that day.

Hace 3 años, luego de ya haber conocido Cúcuta, y después de una pequeña crisis emocional que me dio por tener demasiados años sin ver a mi hermana, decidí ir a pasar diciembre de 2023 con ella y así conocer a mis sobrinos que viven allá. No tengo fotografías propias con mi hermana de aquellas fechas, pero esta fue el día 31 de enero de este año, en un festival que hubo en el pueblo, y ese día salimos a compartir juntos.

I come from a home with strong family values, and having the opportunity to spend time with my nephews has been one of the best things I've ever had. They are three very special children, and I can say with complete joy that the affection has been mutual. These children are wonderful people, with good values and an excellent upbringing that they have never lacked.

Vengo de un hogar con valores familiares, y tener la oportunidad de convivir con mis sobrinos ha sido de las mejores oportunidades que he tenido, son tres niños muy especiales y con todo el gusto puedo decir que el cariño ha sido mutuo. Estos niños son una calidad de personas, con buenos valores y con una educación excelente que no les has faltado nunca.

When I traveled to Magangué, Bolívar State, I never imagined the magnitude of this place and how important it is specifically for Colombians in general. As a Venezuelan, I had never heard of it. Here in Venezuela, it's common to know about Bogotá, Cali, and Barranquilla, and thanks to the telenovela "Sin Senos no hay Paraíso" (Without Breasts There Is No Paradise), we know about Pereira. In other words, my general knowledge had limited me to seeing beyond those cities.

Cuando viaje a Magangué, Estado Bolívar, jamás me imaginé la magnitud que guarda este sitio y lo importante que es específicamente este lugar para los colombianos en general. Yo como venezolano, jamás había escuchado de este sitio, aquí en Venezuela, es común tener conocimiento sobre Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla y gracias a la novela "Sin Senos no hay Paraíso" conocemos Pereira, o sea, la cultura general me había limitado a ver más allá.

Magangué is home to the Magdalena River, the largest river in Colombia, and going daily to spend a hot afternoon at the old terminal makes you admire the grandeur that this place holds, and from here you can admire the fishing activity that is very popular in the area and something very characteristic.

Magangué es el hogar del Río Magdalena, el río más grande de Colombia, e ir a diario a pasar una tarde calurosa al terminal viejo, te hace admirar la grandeza que guarda este sitio, y desde aquí se puede admirar la actividad pesquera que es muy popular en la zona y algo muy característico.

If you visit this site, it's essential to see the "Our Lady of Candelaria" Cathedral. This cathedral is one of the most popular in the entire country, thanks to its architecture and the beautiful sunsets that can be enjoyed here daily.

Si visitas este sitio, es crucial conocer la catedral "Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria". Esta catedral es de las más populares en todo el país, por su arquitectura y su hermosa vista bajo los hermosos atardeceres que a diario se encuentran aquí.

On January 31st, the town held its annual "Summer Festival," a celebration designed to boost the local economy and traditions. At the festival, visitors can admire a wide variety of local handicrafts that honor the culture and history of Magangué, serving as a personal brand for each of its inhabitants.

El 31 de enero hubo en el pueblo el "Festival de Verano", que se celebra todos los años, para impulsar la economía y tradiciones que tiene este pueblo. En este festival, podemos admirar una alta variedad de productos artesanales locales que honran la cultura y la historia de Magangué, como una marca personal que acompaña a cada uno de los habitantes de este lugar.

For example, this beautiful painting I'm sharing here. And since I had the opportunity to speak with the artist, he told me that the painting represents Magangué of the past, a place that could be admired in all its spectacular glory. With the current construction there, this has been overshadowed over time, making it a glimpse of the town's natural and architectural splendor. It's somewhat regrettable that this view, as depicted in the painting, is no longer there, thanks to the current political climate.

Por ejemplo, este hermoso cuadro que aquí comparto. Y como tuve la oportunidad de hablar con el artista responsable, este me contó que el cuadro representa el Magangué pasado, aquel que se podía admirar de manera espectacular, y con las actuales obras que allí se encuentran esto se ha ido opacando con el pasar de tiempo, siendo este un guiño de la gloria natural y arquitectónica. Es un poco lamentable que ya hoy en día esta mirada que muestra el cuadro ya no esté, gracias a la intervención política que se encuentra hoy.

Among the wide variety of artisanal products at this festival, I must confess I succumbed to the allure of alcohol. Licores Magey is a local artisanal liquor brand that is, to say the least, delicious. I bought a bottle of Ginger Liqueur, a flavor I had never tried in alcohol before, and I still keep the bottle as a lovely memento of that day.

Entre la gran variedad de productos artesanales que hubo en este festival, debo contar que caí en las garras del alcohol. Licores Magey es una marca de licor artesanal local muy delicioso para no decir más. Yo compré una botella de Licor de Jengibre, un sabor que no había probado en alcohol, actualmente conservo la botella como un lindo recuerdo de este día.

I'm from Barquisimeto, known as the twilight city, with sunsets of varied colors, and I've always said that Magangué has nothing to envy my city; this town truly has a mesmerizing magic every day, undoubtedly one of my favorite places.

Yo soy de Barquisimeto, conocida como la ciudad crepuscular, con atardeceres variados en colores, y siempre he dicho que Magangué no tiene nada que envidiar a mi ciudad, este pueblo de verdad tiene una magia hipnotizante cada día, sin duda de mis lugares favoritos.

And finally, I want to say that this place has given me the opportunity to start a business selling desserts and tequeños, and I'm very grateful for the support I receive from the people of Magangué. Thanks to them, I've had the chance, for the first time, to start a business that I truly love. Even though I'm in Venezuela, I have customers there who still write to me to ask when I'm coming back, to keep buying from me and supporting me. I've definitely been a lucky guy in Colombia, and obviously, I'll be back soon.

Y para finalizar, quiero contar que este lugar me ha dado la oportunidad de emprender con postres y tequeños, y estoy muy agradecido por el apoyo que me dan las personas de Magangué, porque gracias a ellos he tenido la oportunidad por primera vez de emprender en algo que es totalmente de mi agrado. Aunque estoy en Venezuela, tengo clientes allá que aún me escriben para saber cuando vuelvo, para seguir comprándome y apoyándome, sin duda he sido un chamo con suerte en Colombia, y obviamente, pronto volveré.
