In a first world country country like Singapore which is still rapidly developing, old school trades like this cobbler on wheels are very rare sights. Locals still rather choose to trust their shoe repairs to gentlemen like him rather than retail shoe repair shops in malls; because despite the much lower price you pay, you still get top quality service and care for your shoes.
On the human side of things, I believe we also want to preserve them being there for us, because their absence from the public space just leaves this colder void in want of character it once had.
It saddens me that a future without them, is inevitable.
