Winter is coming
Ethereum block time used to be average of 15 seconds, currently is around 30 seconds. Easiest way to visualize Ethereum ice age kicking in is viewing daily rewards. Before april there was an average of 30K ether created every day. Then ice age started to go into effect step by step, currently around 14.6K ether will get created every day.
With Metropolis hard fork, ice age is going to be reset, block time around 10 seconds and rewards getting reduced to 3 ether per block. With that being said and not calculating uncle rewards, every day will be created 28.8K ether, including uncle it should be back to 30k again.
It's just a matter of time before ice age kicks in again, hopefully next time Casper will be ready.
