The Illawara Flame tree ( Brachychiton acerifolius ) is in full flower now in Sydney. It is spectacular with it's red flowers. This is an Australian native tree, and occurs naturally in the Sub-tropical regions on the East Coast of Australia and also New Guinea , growing up to 30 metres in height. After flowering, it develops large seed pods which provide food for native birds. There are 31 different species if this tree, but this one is probably the most colourful. This tree was not far from where i live.
