This awesome image of Florida at night was captured by french European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet while aboard the International Space Station on Expedition 51. Keep in mind that the ISS is flying at 17,500 miles an hour! Light pollution from the cities make it easy to pick out metro Miami/Fort Lauderdale to the south east. The Tampa Bay area to the west. Orlando to the east of Tampa and the bright spot to the north is Atlanta. The big black region toward the tip of Florida is Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. If you look closely, you can even see the green hue of the northern lights off to the far north. The bright crescent shaped light over the Atlantic Ocean is sunrise, which happens every 45 minutes aboard the ISS!

The next time someone tells you that you can not see the northern lights from Florida, just answer "altitude is everything!"
