What is Zebi?
If you haven’t watched the above explainer video of the Zebi blockchain project, here is a short description. Zebi is an Indian-based blockchain application, aimed at protecting large amounts of data from being tampered with. The Zebi project is made up from two main components. the first component is the zebi data gateway, which connects individuals and data requestors with each other, so it gives control of the data back to the indivuals who than can decide for themselves whith who to share their data. The second component is the Zebi chain, a proprietary light weight satellite application installed at various Data Providers’ premises to provide immutability using Blockchain based ledger. The number of nodes in the private Blockchain is configurable and integrates with Ethereum public Blockchain for 100% tamperproof protection.
Which problem does Zebi solve
By storing the data on the blockchain the data becomes immutable and there will be no way the data can be tampered with. For instance if you buy a property from someone, malicious hackers could hack a sever/data file and change the ownership of the property (hence actualy stealing your property). By storing the transaction on the Zebi chain the transaction becomes immutable and cannot be changed by hackers or other malicious parties. Hence protecting your ownership of the property. Similary more and more companies (e.g. Facebook and Google) seem to have acces to your personal data. Zebi beliefs that you should own control over this data and that it is up to you to decide to whom you share/sell your personal data, hence the Zebi data gateway.
A couple of use cases for the Zebi project are:
- storing education records
- storing employee records
- storing ownership records
- storing utility records
Team
The team behind Zebi is impressive and has a vast amount of knwoledge and experience. The team members have experience with big institutions and companies, such as:MIT, Oxford, Stanford, Microsoft, Uber, Google and Oracle.
Some of the key members are:
Babu Munagala, Founder/CEO
- Director, software development at Oracle for over 18 years
Kalyan Muppaneni, Board Member
- Founder of Pi DATACENTERS for over 3 years.
Sudheer Kuppam, Co-founder & Board member
- Managing Partner, Epsilon Venture Partners for over 2 years.
- Managing Director, Intel Capital for over 8 years.
Vasu Parmeswaran, Advisor
- Senior engineering manager, Uber for 1 year.
- Principal engineering manager, Microsoft for over 2 years.
Roadmap
Zebi’s roadmap looks promising, below you can find a screenshot from their roadmap as shown on the Zebi website.
As you can see the roadmap runs through the end of 2020, which is a long way in cryptoyears but it is an ambitious project and so is their roadmap. Like almost all projects this roadmap is just an indication and some delays should be expected.
ICO results
Zebi has succesfully done their ICO and all tokens were sold. In total Zebi collected 10,000 eth. 2,027 in private sale round; 6,378 through strategic partners and 1,594 through crowdsale.
Overall thought
I think that Zebi is a great project. It does tackle a real problem, hence as a real use case. The team seems strong and capable. Also the hard cap of 10,000 eth was very small, providing lots of potential to grow it’s market cap.
