It was ranked 1 on Mainstream Rock chart (Billboard Magazin) for 12 weeks straight and it ended up becoming the fifth best performing song on Alternative Songs chart of the decade and eight on Mainstream Rock. This song is the bands biggest US hit as it reached position 31 on Billboard Hot 100.

Lyrics were single-handedly created by Chris Cornell and most fans, even the band thought the lyrics were about love and romance. But at the later time, Chris Cornell explained that

"It's a song about concentrating on the afterlife you would hope for, rather than the normal monotheistic approach: You work really hard all your life to be a good person and a moral persona and fair and generous, and then you go to hell anyway."
