The Swedish central bank will try to launch a pilot project to develop an electronic coin next year as the northern country is considering how to secure payment systems in a cashless future, writes Bloomberg.
The goal will be to "develop and prepare an e-crown" that could be introduced if the bank "would like it". The pilot project that may be launched next year will look at how an electronic crown can be created that can be loaded onto an application or payment card.
And thinking about it the most appropriate technology that comes to mind in order to support such an electronic coin would be the blockchain. It mind sound weird to have decentralized coin being centralized, but we all think of Ripple which was made for the banks and seems to do its job. But, nevertheless, it is a step in the right direction and the crypto industry will benefit from it.
