"I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing."
"He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature."
"If all misfortunes were laid in one common heap whence everyone must take an equal portion, most people would be contented to take their own and depart."
Socrates
was an Athenian philosopher who is believed to be one of the founding fathers of Western philosophy. He established the school of moral and western ethical thought. He spent most of his life at the Athenian marketplace with discussions: He strolled through the busy streets and asked people about their lives, about the meaning of their endeavors and what their goals and dreams looked like. This charming curiosity, his manner of asking questions better left untouched, got him into a lot of trouble and ended with his execution. He did not fight it, but boldly went on to accept his fate. During his lifetime he made no writings, and is only known through the accounts of Plato and a few of his other students.
