Great post! I love the distinction you made between community and social media. Brilliant! Social Media is a marketing term for how people 'use' groups of people gathered together to advertise to them. Community, as you mention, is people who share for the sake of the commons. That's the thing Hive has that the 'social media' giants cannot really compete with, the participants of Hive are inherently the owners, a community. There is no corporate advertising company renting out people's attention.

I love this old english word, gemænscipe. From one of my favorite sites, https://www.etymonline.com/word/community.

An Old English word for "community" was gemænscipe "community, fellowship, union, common ownership," from mæne "common, public, general," and thus probably composed from the same PIE roots as communis. Middle English also had commonty (late 14c.) "the common people; a community," also later meaning "land held in common" (c. 1600).
