There are so many different problems behind this. Most of people go with the crowd. This is how it is supposed to be in society. And for society itself in such condition, it is not possible to be encouraging. This is like a chicken and egg dilemma. For people to be more financially educated, they need to see more educated people around them. To get more financially educated people, society needs to be more wealthy and to be more wealthy society needs to have more financially educated people...
On practice, things change when more people, that were able to lift themselves from poverty, will return to their neighborhoods to help. Opening schools, using own example to encourage young people dream big, helping some smart kid to get proper education paying some bills or donating a laptop for example.
