Nikkei Asian Review reported on Friday that the tech firm originally a joint venture between Softbank and Altaba (formerly Yahoo!) will commence an acquisition of BitARG Exchange Tokyo in April and next year, it will use BitARG’s technology to establish a full-fledged exchange that will launch in the year 2019.

Yahoo Japan’s initial investment will see YJFX one of its subsidiaries pay 2 billion yen (~$19 million) for a 40 percent wager in BitARG, which already has a permit from the country’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) to run a cryptocurrency trading platform.

Yahoo Japan will afterwards make further outlays in BitARG via other afflictions over the course of the next year’s calendar as it also scales up the platform’s processes in anticipation of its regeneration as a new exchange, which is tentatively planned to take place on April 2019.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), the biggest financial foundation in Japan as measured by assets under management (AUM), is readying plans to launch an exchange, as reported by regional media sources in January.

Lastly, Japanese banking group SBI plans to build its exchange, although it recently delayed the launch so it could reinforce its security measures — a move that came in reaction to increased scrutiny from the FSA.

As CCN reported, the FSA has inclined enforcement of the cryptocurrency trading sector in the months following a record-setting robbery at Tokyo exchange Coincheck.
