Happy new month everyone. Today I will be engaging on the task for the newbie initiative task 3 which I will be writing on hive keys and security.
TALKING ABOUT THE THE HIVE KEYS
In the tutorial I learnt there are 5 different important keys in hive. These keys are very important that it is not wise to disclose it to another person for the safety of your account. No one should have access to your hive keys, because each keys has it's own function.
Here are the five keys in hive and their functions
MASTER KEY: Master key plays an important role in hive, with master key you create all other passwords in hive. You can also use master key to recover accounts or passwords. Master key is the first key given to you once you create a hive account.
ACTIVE KEY: Active key is a special key mostly for transactions like making transfers in hive wallet, you can use active key to upvote a witness and active key can also be used for powering up and down. Let's say active key is mainly for transactions and financial operations.
MEMO KEY:Memo key is not really so important like other keys, it doesn't have much function. Memo key helps you to read and send encrypted messages on hive blockchain.
OWNER KEY:The function of this key is so powerful. If you lose your master key, you can use the owner key to get it back and you can also use it to recover lost account. With owner key you can recover and reset other keys.
POSTING KEY:Posting key do a lot of job in hive blockchain. With posting key you can post on hive, comment on people's post, to login your account, voting other people's post and to reblog a post.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR KEYS SAFE IN MY OWN OPINION
For me I have all my keys written down in my Gmail draft that is very hard for you to see them because you have to login my Gmail account first.
I also save the pdf of my keys in my WPS word app and I hide this app from my menu and other apps. Doing all this I am fully relaxed that my keys are safe from intruders.
HOW DO YOU CHECK YOUR RECOVERY ACCOUNT AND WHAT PROCESS IS NEEDED TO RECOVER AN ACCOUNT?
If your hive account is lost or maybe someone hacked your account, here are the steps you need to take to recover your account.
There is an account that has been attached to your hive account in case you lost it. This account is known as Trustee, Trustee is an account that will help you recover your lost hive account. And where you can see this Recovery account is https://hiveblocks.com/@username.
Here are few step to recover your account.
First, you click on this link https://reazuliqbal.com/HiveAccountRecovery/. You press on Recover Account. Then you follow and read all the instructions given to you there, before this, you have to create a new password for you to have a new Public Owner Key. You see this at generate password.png
Finally, you will send the new Public owner key to the Trustee. Then all you have to do is put in your all the details needed and press on Recover Account.
