Lately I have been very frustrated with my packaging business partner as the communication between us has been non existent. This is not from my side but when trying to contact him it has been not straight forward.
This last week I had no notification that he was away outside the country and that where he was had very little or no phone reception. I have been trying to contact him since Tuesday and only last night did I receive a response apologizing for the no contact. This is just not good enough from my viewpoint and this needs to be fixed quickly.
Thankfully what I was contacting him for was an updated cost price list which has now apparently again changed and why I need to have constant updates. If your pricing is outdated then it benefits no one and we need to be up to date and sync with each other at all times.
The frustrating part is the not knowing and being a team working together both sides need to know what is transpiring when it comes to price. I would rather hold off if there is the unknown knowing possibly the price will drop within the next few days.
From my understanding we are about to drop by another 10% due to negotiations with our raw material suppliers which is great news, but keep me in the loop. A 10% swing is huge because price is what counts in the economy today with so many businesses looking for savings.
I know in the past we have discussed this no communication and the reason behind the lack of communication is we just get on and do the work which is fine because the trust is there and we think similarly. I back his decisions as he does mine but when it comes to pricing this is a whole different ball game because that is something you cannot guess. We are only 3 people who run this business and it is not like there are hundreds of people.
In the past when I worked for corporate companies the communication was also very poor and it was more along the lines of people covering their backsides. This is one of the reasons why I hated the corporate world as it seemed like everyone was worried about being fired instead of just doing their work. They were all team players and if you were the one doing the work you saw things very differently because you were the one on the ground. If you did not agree with their narrative or disagreed with their actions then you were not a team player and why communication was almost non existent because then they could act ignorant to what was taking place in the market.
Anyway our lack of communication will be rectified over a quick meeting within the next week or two as much needs to be discussed on how we are going to assist each other in achieving this years goals. The year is nearly done and we have lost so much downtime we will be lucky to achieve half of what we set at the beginning of the year. We are a good team together offering skills where the other person maybe lacking and when we put our heads together we make the right decisions.
