After climbing over $ 14 million in ICO in May 2017, Mysterium will build a fully decentralized, peer-to-peer virtual private network (VPN).
By providing users with greater confidentiality and financial incentives to work with nodes (personal computers, jargon), Mysterium will remove restrictions on the use of the Internet as outlined in their mission:
"Our mission is to create a distributed (decentralized), reliable and sustainable network to provide free access and privacy to all Internet users."
While many people tend to associate privacy and anonymity with criminal activity, encryption is also important in the most legitimate activities. For example, travelers may need access to social media or e-mail services that are blocked in some countries, communications can reveal your political beliefs and make you a target of discrimination; the third good reason is the protection from corporate espionage.
But why do we need a decentralized VPN service? Well, first of all, centralized services give priority to shareholders rather than consumers, so Mysterium will seek to add more value and work at a lower cost. Secondly, private data is distributed and never falls into the hands of a company or person.
How does Mysterium work?
Users of VPN services can find and pay to service providers on the web using Mysterium services that incorporate Smart Contact, Special Services, and Payment Services. All of this is developed on Etheric Block, which makes Data Storage and Mysterium transactions unprepared for censorship and manipulation.
The price of Mysterium services will be determined by nodal operators, which will lead to "perfect competition". The cost of starting a node must be closely matched to the price consumers pay, which has an advantage over existing VPN services that are more expensive.
It is expected that a work product, payment management mechanism, identity management, and subsequent developments will be completed by the end of 2017. By the end of 2017, Mystery wants to establish robust legal protection for nodal operators in at least one country. By 2019, the fully decentralized version will be implemented and the Mysterium application will be launched globally. In the end, we will see that their project will take the form of DApp (Decentralized APPlication).
