It’s like TurboTax does not want us to pay our cryptocurrency taxes. I typically use Turbo tax and they advertise that their premier product handles the integration of Coinbase to log transaction and calculate your tax liability.
However, if you buy the CD/download this functionality is not available with this option. It’s only available on the virtual online version. It’s not disclosed that the premier products are different based on the format. So I spent the $70 on the CD and about 2 hours filling it out to run into the issue there’s no where to load crypto gains. You can only say you held or sold. Which is a great way to get audited.
After researching it a bit I bought the online version for $90 spent about an hour filing it out and was able to load some of crypto transactions from RobinHood, but tried to upload the .csv files from coinbase and it gives a header formatting error. I tried to reformat the headers and no luck. I did some research and it looks like it’s a known issue with now resolution... I spent 4 hours contacting Turbo tax and coinbase help desks, but I was hung up, chats closed and no tickets were opened. To be honest this was the worst customer service I’ve ever had. At this point I’m not going to input all my individual transactions or pay for a third party tracker since their data seems to not meet the requirements either.
I’m beyond frustrated and plan to give it a few days to see if it gets fixed. I currently have over 20 messages to coinbase and TurboTax so maybe I’ll get a response at some point...
