Johnson bids for a Brexit-deal anew, positive for parliament’s support

Boris Johnson is making another bid to strike a deal before leaving the European Union on Oct. 31 amid the growing optimism that the Parliament is on his side to help him seal a deal.

On Monday, Johnson asks the House of Commons to support his deal with the European Union by getting a new “meaningful vote”.

However, Commons Speaker John Bercow stands in his way who has the power to disallow the vote as it is a repetition of the same question in the same session in breach of the rules of the parliament.

The amendment vote did not favor the government, brought by former Conservative Minister Oliver Letwin, with a slight difference of 16 votes. On Sunday, ministers said that the government will now be backed up by 320 members of Parliament needed to win the vote.

“We appear to have the numbers to get this through,” said Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
