"Is the elimination of everyone's privacy a price worth paying in the name of safety?"

Absolutely not!

As internet users, we've generally been selling our souls down the river by using "free" services that collect all kinds of metadata about us and cheerfully and without compunction pass that along to what I identify as "fiefdoms of satan," aka the state.

One of my hopes in this area is that ongoing development of "Web3" distributed technologies; bitcoin in particular as an underlying sound store of value, along with other tech that separates the metadata from individuals and ends all the tracking and accumulation of that data, returning control of personal information to the individuals involved.

However, all of that is a slow and painful transition process with many potential pitfalls, and at present many competing approaches. Competition is great, and I'm hoping that flaws in the mechanisms will be shaken out by the process and true privacy and personal protection will ensue and float to the top of the heap.
