Hello friends how are you all Hope everybody is doing well. Today I came with you with a new episode of Puri Travel. The topic of today's blog is Udayagiri and Khandagiri cave tour. Another popular place to visit Puri and do side scenes is the Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves.
Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves are located on the Purbaghat mountain range, 6 to 7 km west of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa. The historical and religious significance of these two caves is very valuable. Due to their historical and religious significance, thousands of people visit here every day.
According to the inscription, Udayagiri Khandagiri caves are located on the top of Kumari hill.
At present there is a car parking facility under this cave. It took 15 rupees per person from us to enter here.
Udayagiri on one side of the road and Khandagiri on the other side. There are 15 caves in Khandagiri but most of them have been eroded. There are 18 caves in Udayagiri but they are still intact and have been specially preserved by the government. The word Udayagiri means sunrise hill.
These were built during the reign of Kalingaraja Kharbel 200 years before the birth of Christ, mainly for the solitary pursuit of Jain monks. Kharbel was the third and greatest emperor of the Mahameghvahana dynasty of the Kalinga kingdom.
These caves are made somewhat natural and somewhat artificial. Not only this, with the help of good drainage system water can be collected from the caves. Each of the caves has a specific name such as Hati Gumfa, Rani Gumfa, Patalpuri Gumfa, Ganesh Gumfa, Joy Vijay Gumfa etc.
We spent about three to four hours walking around and learned all the information by talking to our tour guide....
