Elon Musk becomes the new owner of Twitter. He promises to restore free speech and ease up on the heavy handed moderation policies.
Many celebrate, despite the centralization of company power under the rules of one person.
A few years ago Justin Sun negotiated to buy the Steem trademark, company, website, and related rights, yet failed to understand that he did not actually own the entire Steem blockchain. So he performed a hostile takeover of his own, and soon controlled a super majority of the blockchain witnesses, essentially giving himself full control. Everyone's Steem wallets were suddenly vulnerable (if you previously said anything bad about Justin), and any content or accounts speaking criticism against Sun were being censored and flagged.
Yet some stood and welcomed the new boss with open arms. He promised much needed leadership and wealth to all holders of Steem. His dream to link Steem into his own baby child Tron, to some seemed like a potential opportunity to add further value to their current investments.
As soon as the final battle for Steem to be lost, an epic final blow was struck. A hard fork shoved up where the sun never shines. Hive was born, with careful security set up by the former Steem witnesses and developers to prevent the centralization of power by Sun or any of his allies.
This Bait and Switch move left many Steem loyalists feeling betrayed and unfairly attacked. Even before Justin Sun arrived on the scene, Steem was a turbulent and volatile landscape covered in spam. After the fork the sudden loss off activity turned Steem into a barren wasteland, yet still littered with crappy posts and spam celebrating the future of Sun-baked Steem.
Hive on the other hand started fresh. All of the inactive users relying on spam bots were essentially blacklisted, allowing much better content and interactions to occupy the feeds. New innovations continue to roll out to improve Hive based on user input and our genius developers, instead of the creative self-interests of Ned, the one man guitar show. And recently all users are able to earn a whopping 20% APR on their HBD savings.
While the world suffers from inflation and debt, investing in Hive has never been so easy and appealing.
Perhaps we owe Justin Sun a bit of gratitude. If he hadn't wasted his money buying up Steem, we might not have rallied together behind the right visionaries capable of creating the Hive blockchain we know and love today.
Do you think Elon Musk buying Twitter is worth celebrating, or is this something that deserves more criticism?
Do you think Elon Musk will be able to turn Twitter around, to a place of free speech where most people will enjoy being able to interact with others? Or will it follow the same pattern as Steem, further dividing the current Twitter landscape? Will a better alternative likely rise up from the ashes of the war, stealing Musk's thunder?
Perhaps Musk will even incorporate Blockchain and Cryptocurrency into Twitter, to further compete directly with Hive. Would you jump ship, stay or play in both fields?
