I always felt the pledge promotes religious nationalism with the purpose being to unite people to their country against any red communism propaganda. To keep our individual freedoms we must always be on guard against the evil of giving up our rights peacefully to a foreign power. I think this kind of thinking, actual independent thinking, is going to be lost on the next generation.
