Yes, the financial factor was a huge deal. Some families still go by this mentality and do a thorough research of the potential partner before encouraging their child to pursue a romantic relationship.
How much money does she/he make?
What is the social status of their parents?
What is their fortune and what material goods do they own?
Do they have powerful social connections?
And the list can go on. It is somehow sad if when we talk about love we only consider family wealth. Character and good morals are not connected with wealth and I find this to still be an issue, at least in my country.
I know that it is important though to be with someone compatible and this may include status. But I think it is more important what family can you build with that person rather from where they come from.
I am happy for you and for your lovely marriage. What advices would you give to single people who want to be married?
