For people to appreciate value they have to have a fair concept of what value is. Otherwise one can cast their pearls in front of swine. This explains the popularity of some platforms over others although there might be more value in one than in the other. What audiences believe is value might not be in somebody else's mind. I guess it all comes down to knowing your target audience
