All our lives we're in competition, whether or not we want to accept that. As little kids, parents compare which kid starts to walk first, starts to talk first and so on. When you get to primary education, the competition continues. You have to compete for a position in your classroom. If you're always coming last, you'll be the joke of the class.
Hence, from a tender age, we already know that other people want what we want. It then becomes a game of who wants it more and is willing to put all of their being into seeing that he/she is at the top of the class or group. It's always awful to be at the other side of success, which of course is failure.
Thus, we're inextricably engaging in competition. Even when there's an open show, we struggle for a good position, from where we can enjoy the show. This is the fact of reality, it's better to accept what it is and get better at competing. It wouldn't come as a shock to you, to hear that most people are really lazy when it comes to competing.
Therefore, the first thing you need to understand if you want to be ahead of the next man or ahead of whatever group or competition you're in; is that you have to work harder than everyone else. There's no two ways about it. If other people put in 4 hours a day. If you want to standout from the masses then you have to put in 8 to 10 hours a day of work.

This is not easy for majority of people, and the reason is simple. Most people don't ever get to make up their minds on what exactly they want to do in life, and devote themselves to that thing. It's hard to compete with someone that is devoted to what they're doing, because they'll put in more work and time into their business than the other people who haven't made up their minds.
Especially in the world as we have it right now, the competitions are pretty much very tight. You have to work hard to have an advantage, if you want to be anywhere on top. You might be joking around, but other people are giving all they have to what they do. If you don't outdo them, you'll definitely be on the other side of success. And that's not what you want I believe. Be competitive in all you do. Always be looking to be the best in your business.
