I'm working on a small home renovation, this has been a few days old. My wife chose a few colors and indicated that she would like a touch up on the walls. Certainly a task for the professional husband that I am.
My wife then invited me to visit the stores and make some estimates. This simple and often overlooked step can make a world of difference when it comes to home budget!
Three specialized stores within the radius of our micro-region were chosen. My favorite store was vetoed due to dissatisfaction with a previous service. We would only do business again in case of extreme need. So there were two stores left.
The first store we visited was permanently closed. This cost me time and fuel, plus I couldn't (on the way back) replace it with another shop. (since time is money, and fuel is also money, this glitch cost me money²)
The second store responded quickly and provided us with the necessary amounts, but with products similar to those referenced. This replacement can be an impromptu if not well thought out. As we were still looking for other references, we didn't close the deal.
The third store had to be activated, and we went there thinking about the likely inconvenience. And he was right: there were no salespeople in the store at the time, only the owners, who knew nothing about the product they sold.
A little more time wasted waiting for the return of a qualified seller, and finally we were attended to. Final budget figures had considerable variance. We ended up closing the deal right there, and we left.
I had noted in a spreadsheet the costs of similar acquisitions that I made in 2020, so I was able to compare the inflation of the period, in addition to the current price variation.
This value takes into account an 18 liter can of paint (Brazil reference), duly pigmented, in superior quality. I won't mention the brand, but any Brazilian can guess what I'm talking about.
Using a calculator, we can convert this three-year 68% rate to a twelve-month rate, which would give us 18.8% per year. In 2020, inflation was just over 4%.

But in 2021 we have a big inflationary jump, I'm not justifying the rise in prices, but something strange is in the air. Let's be honest: if in the period the accumulated inflation was something around 20%, how to explain the 68% increases in the value of the referenced product?
At least we can observe that the local variation of current prices is within acceptable standards. The comparison between stores showed a variation of only 5.4% in prices.
I was surprised because I knew this local market and 2020 in depth and had a perspective able to rank the stores by the value of the products beforehand.
The difference has been reduced, does this mean that trade is more competitive?
The closure of one of the stores supports this premise. But I am not a scholar, I cannot make such claims!
I'll keep my 5%. Does it seem little?

Minha esposa então me convidou para visitarmos as lojas e realizar alguns orçamentos. Esse passo simples e muitas vezes negligenciado pode fazer muita diferença quando o assunto é orçamento doméstico!
Foram eleitas três lojas especializadas dentro do raio da nossa microrregião. A minha loja preferida foi vetada devido a um descontentamento em um atendimento anterior. Só voltaríamos fazer negócios em caso de extrema necessidade. Então restaram duas lojas.
A primeira loja em que visitamos estava fechada definitivamente. Isso me custou tempo e combustível, além de que não teria (no caminho de volta) como substituir por outra loja. (como tempo é dinheiro, e combustível também é dinheiro, essa falha me custou dinheiro²)
A segunda loja nos atendeu rapidamente e nos repassou os valores necessários, mas com produtos similares aos referenciados. Essa substituição pode ser um improviso, se não for bem pensada. Como ainda estávamos em busca de outras referências, não fechamos negócio.
A terceira loja precisou ser acionada, e já fomos até ela pensando no provável incômodo. E foi certeiro: não haviam vendedores na loja no momento, apenas os proprietários, que nada entendiam do produto que vendiam.
Mais um pouco de tempo perdido esperando pelo retorno de um vendedor qualificado, e enfim fomos atendidos. Os valores do orçamento final tinham uma variação considerável. Acabamos fechando negócio ali mesmo, e partimos.
Eu tinha anotado em planilha os custos das aquisições semelhantes que realizei no ano de 2020, então pude comparar a inflação do período, além da variação do preço na atualidade.
Esse valor leva em conta uma lata de tinta de 18 litros (referência Brasil), devidamente pigmentada, em qualidade superior. Não vou citar a marca, mas qualquer brasileiro pode supor do que eu estou falando.
Usando uma calculadora, podemos converter esse valor de 68% em três anos para uma taxa de doze meses, que nos daria 18,8% ao ano. Em 2020, a inflação foi de pouco mais de 4%.

Mas em 2021 temos um grande salto inflacionário, não estou justificando a elevação dos preços, mas algo de estranho esta no ar. Sejamos honestos: se no período a inflação acumulada foi de algo em torno de 20%, como explicar os 68% de acréscimos no valor do produto referenciado?
Ao menos podemos observar que a variação local dos preços atuais está dentro de padrões aceitáveis. O comparativo entre as lojas apontou uma variação de apenas 5,4% nos preços.
Eu fiquei surpreso pois conheci a fundo este mercado local e 2020 e tinha uma perspectiva capaz de rankear as lojas pelo valor dos produtos previamente.
A diferença foi reduzida, isso significa que o comércio está mais competitivo?
O fechamento de uma das lojas apoia essa premissa. Mas não sou um estudioso, não posso fazer essas afirmações!
