I know most people of never heard of PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). PCOS is an endocrine disorder.
I was diagnosed when I was 18. It is hell to live with.
There are many complications with PCOS. Ovaries covered with cysts, unwanted facial hair, high blood pressure, low b12, low vitamin d, depression, anxiety, mood swings, insulin resistance, diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, abnormal periods.
With PCOS Ive also been unable to get pregnant and may never be able to.
This disorder kills your self esteem. It makes me fill like less of a woman, like I am broken.
Unfortunately there is no cure. Most doctors are not very familiar with PCOS. They end up prescribing birth control or metformin which is a diabetes medicine.
They still don't know what causes PCOS, but it is believed to be genetic.
If you know someone that has PCOS the best thing you can do for them is to be there for them. Try to learn everything you can about it so that you can at least try to have some understanding of what we go through on a daily basis.
