Cactus plants have some unique, distinctive qualities which help them survive in the extreme hot and dry weather conditions. When we think of a cactus plant, the first thing that comes to our mind is its spines, which are nothing but its leaves. The leaves grow from these specialized structures called the areoles. The size of the spines can vary from species to species and they can be as long as 15 cm. As the leaves are small, they prevent loss of water through transpiration.
Some cactus spines are light in color which help them to reflect maximum sunlight and keep the plant cool. Another function of the spines is to protect the plant from birds and animals. They actually eat cactus only for water. Cactuses bring life to the desserts! 🌵tell me cactuses arnt cool!
