For myself I have to take a stance against 'the greater good'. This is a concept that cannot be separated from utilitarian ethics as a theory and under any such system the liberties (rights) of a few can and will be rationally sacrificed in favor of a majority. My argument is that if even a single individual can be so sacrificed then the whole is already a failure. Fortunately Hive as a system is not bound to this.

The potential that Hive opens up for anyone (and thus everyone) is staggering to say the least. It really is sad that some need to minimalize others in order to feel better about themselves. Unfortunately until we can all agree to consciously agree to practice a better ethical standard (such as Kant) to the best of our ability, such bad habits will continue to be a problem. Adopting Kant's Kingdom of Ends principle and its common practice gets us much closer to the 'good of all' ideal and actually mandates social ostracization of unacceptable behavior.
