As NASA and by extension all of humanity prepares to return to the moon and from there launch onward to Mars, I was thinking how that could relate to cryptocurrency. One issue that NASA or any project has is funding. Imagine if in order to help fund the Mars project NASA created and sold its own cryptocurrency in order to raise funds.
It would have to be a true cryptocurrency of course, based on open source with a distributed blockchain and complete autonomy. If it was done correctly though, just think how many people would want to buy into the coin in order to be part of the Mars mission.
NASA could even offer incentives to get people to buy more of the coin, such as being able to either stake the coin or perhaps spend it in order to help name certain parts of Mars. Not only would it be an interesting new way for a large organization to raise funds, but it would get even more people to recognize cryptocurrency in general.
