I spend so much time with them that most of them are pretty comfortable around me, but I know what you mean. When I visited Osaka last year I noticed that feeding the crows wasn't as common as it is here in Portland, though I did see at least one person who clearly had crow friends the way I do. I think it helps when the local community is more apt to spoil the birds, kind of primes them for friendship, even though they still have all their survival wits about them.
