Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge: Cursed Windeku

Hello Splinterfam! I'm back again for this week's Share your battle challenge featuring Cursed Windeku. For those of you who are new here reading my blog, I mainly play on Modern Format Silver League only. So, basically I would cover only Silver League Modern format content here.

  • Lore

Cursed Windeku are nightmarish creatures that live in the deepest and darkest woods. They hunt at night, stalking their prey before attacking with their claws, while their thorn-like horns and natural healing ability provide an excellent defense,. They exude a pungent pheromone that reduces the reaction time of their victims, often allowing the Windeku to begin devouring them before they are dead. While these lifeless creatures may appear animalistic, they are highly intelligent. They have heeded the call put forth by the Lord of Darkness. Their thirst for blood is now focused on the Chaos Legion.
“I heard it again... that rustle of brush in the darkness of the forest. No mistaking it now. Something was stalking us.

I picked up my pace and urged Grewa to do the same. We hurried through the trees toward the inn. I could hear her panting behind me. Something howled then, but not like a wolf. Like a man who has gone mad with hunger.

I lost it. I ran. Ran as fast as my legs could carry me. And when I stumbled and fell and got up again, I realized I was alone. No sound of Grewa. No footfalls or heavy breath.

I rose to my feet and walked slowly back the way we'd come. I heard a sound. A wet, tearing sound. And in the middle of trees, not twenty yards away, I saw Grewa. And I saw it.

The beast was gaunt, its skin pulled tight over its bones. It was the ash-gray color of death, with sunken eyes, like a corpse recently risen from the grave, and twisted horns. And the smell. Oh, gods, the smell.

Its lips were tattered and bloody. It was Grewa's blood. It had torn her open and was feasting on her guts. And she... she was still moving. She let out a little whimper.

And I turned and I ran until I saw your light burning in the distance, and I kept running until I burst through the door.”

The man downed the rest of his tankard of ale and stared into the empty mug. The other patrons of the inn shifted in their seats.

“He's making it up,” one said.

“He's drunk,” said another.

The room burst into laughter. Conversations resumed. The man continued staring into his ale.

From somewhere in the dark of night outside rose a mad and hungry howl.

Cursed Windeku

  • Edition - Chaos Legion

  • Rarity - Rare

  • Element - Death

  • Attack - Melee

  • Abilities - Thorns (Obtains Heal on level 5 and Slow on level 8)

  • Stats

image.png

If you look at the stats for max Silver Level Which is level 4

  • Attack Damage 3
  • Speed 3
  • Armor 0
  • Health 11

The Stat for silver league is great with 11 Health and with 3 Attack damage considering his Mana Cost which is low for a tank. The Heal would be very much appreciated for the silver league but we got Thorn instead but I'm not complaining Thorn is still a great ability for a tank. His speed is also decent with 3 enabling him to attack before opponent tank because most of the tank is slow. Having a tank heal unit in death would make Cursed Windeku very happy because that's the only thing lacking to make him a very good tank to use on silver league.

  • Synergies

For the rule set, Cursed Windeku is more effective in:

Up to Eleven - All monster have amplify ability. (Deals extra damage because Amplify boosts Windeku's Thorn damage by 1)
image.png

Up Close & Personal - Only Monsters with Melee attack may be used in battles. (Since only melee monster can only be used in battle Thorn is very useful in this scenario)
image.png

Unprotected - Monsters do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs. (Since there is now armor damage from thorns will be directed to opponents monster's health because monsters having armor is a nuisance for Cursed Windeku)

  • Battle

Now let's jump into battle wherein I used Cursed Windeku because on the Ruleset which is Unprotected and it would make the Thorn ability very useful in this situation.

The Ruleset were:
image.png

  • Unprotected (Monsters do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs)

34 Mana cap with Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death, Dragon, all splinter available to use. I used death because want to use Cursed Windeku due to its thorn ability which answers the melee monster of opponent. I used Thaddius Brood as a summoner for opponents magic attacking monsters. I also used Queen of Crows, an answer if opponents decides to use ranged monsters. So if you come to think of it I decreased the damage output of the opponent which would make it hard to burst down Cursed Windeku the first round.

The Line up was:
image.png

  • Thaddius Brood (To decrease opponents magic attacking monster if he decides to use any)
  • Cursed Windeku (To tank and to also deal extra damage to melee monsters with his Thorn ability)
  • Queen of Crows (TO decrease opponents Ranged attacking monster if he decides to use any)
  • Corpse Fiend (To serve as a meat shield for opportunity monsters if he decides to use any)
  • Cabalist ( A monster with Amplify ability that helps Cursed Windeku to deal extra 1 damage from Thorns)
  • Xenith Archer (To deal an extra damage, filler monster only)
  • Magi Necrosi (To Snipe opponents ranged or Magic attacking monster at the backline if there is any, and also camouflage helps because he wont be targeted first by opponents monster)

image.png

The idea on this battle is to burst opponents tank early and work my way on his backline. Since there is no armor it is fairly easy to kill opponent's tank early. Decreasing opponent's damage out put is also key to this strategy but in the battle not everything went according to plan because most of his monsters are melee good thing is his sneak monster didn't kill any key monster but rather meat shields. And as you can see from the battle that the Thorns really did work on his monsters making my line up somewhat effective against his. If you want to see the battle Kindly click this link here!

  • Conclusion

Cursed Windeku is a great monster, a great tank to use on silver league. With his low mana cost and great stats, I recommend using him on low to mid mana cap because he lose effectivity when mana caps increase. Pair him with monsters with amplify ability to make him more effective. I would refrain on using him if opponent loves to use magic because the thorn ability would be
rendered useless. I always use him as my tank for low mana cap battles and I also use him if the rules urges players to use melee monster to counter my opponent. The Thorn ability is very good because the extra damage coming from it is not a joke and can sometime be a game changer on certain battles making Cursed Windeku my Go to Tank.
