Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge: River Nymph
Hello Splinterfam! I'm back again for this week's Share your battle challenge featuring River Nymph. For those of you who are new here reading my blog, I mainly play on Modern Format Silver League only. So, basically I would cover only Silver League Modern format content here. Now to begin with, let's look at the stats of River Nymph.
Lore
River Nymphs inhabit the rivers of the Splinterlands. Shy and reclusive, they usually remain hidden beneath the water's surface. However, they have a strong respect for life, and they have been known to aid those in need. They are also fiercely protective of their homes and will defend it if it is threatened.
The young mage slung spell after spell at the five eldritch creatures advancing toward him out of the forest. However, his magics had no effect. The beasts stalked toward him. He staggered backward until his sandals splashed into the shallows of the river flowing behind him. They had him surrounded. The things crouched, ready to leap and tear him to pieces.
Energy surged through the young mage. His fatigue vanished, and his eyes widened in surprise. He moved with an unnatural swiftness as he whirled his arms and cast his spells, and this time, they tore into the eldritch creatures, leaving bloody gashes.
Two of the creatures fell dead. A third charged him, and he blasted it full in the face. It collapsed. But the young mage was unbalanced, and the last two leaped at him. No time to react.
A burst of water magic exploded from somewhere behind him and slammed into the two creatures in succession. They let out a shriek, nightmarish skin smoking. Then they, too, fell and died.
The young mage whirled. Behind him, a slender woman with flawless blue-green skin, pointed ears, and luxurious dark-blue hair stood in the river. The water flowed around her slim waist, and her fingertips traced circles in the current. Her features were elegant and graceful. A magical fae, born of the river, he though in awe. She was the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen.
She shot him a crooked grin, winked, and vanished beneath the water's surface.
River Nymph
Edition - Chaos Legion
Rarity - Rare
Element - Water
Attack - Magic
Abilities - Cleanse (Obtains Amplify on level 4 and Swiftness on level 8)
Stats
If you look at the stats for max level silver which is level 4.
- Attack Damage 1
- Speed 3
- Armor 0
- Health 3
For me the stats is pretty meh, if the magic damage for max silver level is 2 maybe I would consider using it very often. The only thing good on this card is swiftness ability but as I said earlier, I only play on silver league modern format. The Cleanse and Amplify ability could come in handy in a certain ruleset/situation. I only use River Nymph if the ruleset is Noxious Fumes because the Cleanse ability removes the poison on the frontline.
When to use River Nymph
Ruleset which is best time to use River Nymph:
- Noxious Fumes - All Monsters start the battle Poisoned.
- Briar Patch - All monsters receive Thorns ability
- Counter Spell - All monsters have the Reflect ability
- Fire and Regret - All monster have the Return Fire Ability
Battle
Let's jump into battle. River Nymph for me is best used Noxious Fumes ruleset because Cleanse ability is the only one that removes poison on your monster. As much as I would like to show you the gameplay or the line up with Noxious Fumes rules but I just can't find the right ruleset and situation to use her. So I decided to try something new.
The Rulesets were:
- Holy Protection (All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability)
- Briar Patch (All monsters receive Thorns ability)
44 mana cap with Fire, Water, Earth and Death Splinter available to use. At first glance of the rules and Mana Cap, I decided to go for Water because I want to use the Holy Protection to my advantage.
The Line up was:
- Kelya Frendul - To give Armor and Speed to all my monsters to make Legionnaire Alvar more Tanky
- Legionnaire Alvar - To Tank as much damage as he possibly can
- Djinn Oshannus - To act as second tank
- River Hellondale - To revive Legionnaire Alvar
- Venari Wavesmith - To provide 2 armors to all my monsters
- River Nymph - To give Amplify to all my monsters to make the Briar Patch rule to my advantage if my opponent decided to use melee monster
- Supply Runner - To give 1 speed to all my monsters to increase their chance to dodge opponent's attack
This was the line up I could think of because I know that my opponent would not use any melee monster so I know I wont be dealing with monsters with Sneak and Opportunity ability so my opponent would probably use Magic and Ranged attacking monsters. That is why I decided to use Legionnaire Alvar as my tank and damage dealer supporting it with River Hellondale, Venari Wavesmith and Supply Runner. I used River Nymph just in case my opponent would use Melee monsters and also if he/she decided to put any debuffs on Legionnaire Alvar. As I mentioned in my previous article that the divine shield and protect procs when a monster is resurrected making Legionnaire Alvar more tanky.

The battle went well and almost went according to plan, but my opponent didn't use any melee monster so the purpose of River Nymph was not fulfilled (lol) but hey a win is still a win.
Conclusion
River Nymph is very hard to use, she would not fit in every composition. River Nymph has her uses, she shines most likely on the rules I mentioned above. As for her Stats, she is very squishy, low damage and mediocre speed for a 4 mana cost card. I would recommend to only use her if the rules I mentioned before is the rule of your battle because there are many better 4 mana cost card to use instead of River Nymph. For Silver League she is not very usable, I'm not so sure in diamond or in champion because I haven't tried her there but I think she is very useful max level.
That's it for this week's Share your Battle Challenge, Thank you everyone for those of you who gave their time reading this. Hope this helps and I'll see you on the next one.
