I am a cat with a medium length tail. Some of my cousins have very long tails. I have one cousin who has no tail. Kitties with little to no tail are known as a Manx. A Manx with a stump tail is called a stumpie.
This is Leo; he has no tail at all and is a bit of a lazy boy! He is a true Manx.
Manx kitties have great personalities and get along well with other pets and children. Some have referred to them as the cat breed for dog people. They are very laid back kitties!
Manx's rear legs are just a bit longer than the front legs giving them strength when leaping. I know what you're thinking.....that cats without tails can't have any balance, but the fact is, they can balance just fine without them.
The lack of tail is due to a genetic defect known as sacrocaudal dysgenesis. A lot of Manx kittens are born with spina bifida (exposure of the spinal cord). Other issues are that they can have fecal or urinary incontinence.
My human has had many Manx kitties over the years(and years and years, etc, LOL) and loved every minute with them. It's been said she's part cat, but I don't know.........she doesn't look anything like a kitty to me!
