Why, you ask, do we cats sleep sometimes covering our face with our paws? There has been several thoughts as to the reasons why.
We cats, LOVE to sleep, and we are very good at it! We might cover our faces as it's quite comfortable. We also LOVE to sleep in warm places, such as a sunny spot in a window or on the floor. We can use our paws to help block out the bright light; in other words, kitty cat sunglasses!
By covering our faces when we sleep, we feel secure. You might find us sometimes poking our heads under a blanket only to leave our rear ends out in the open. However strange this may sound, we feel secure 'hiding' in a dark, close space.
By curling up in a ball, tucking our feet under us and covering our faces with our paws and tails-this all helps to keep us warm should the place of napping be a bit chilly.
And, if for no other reason, we cover our faces with our paws, because it makes us look so darn cute! Who can resist?
