They said that democracy is where people have the power to choose who leads them. Instead of one person or a group of people making that decision, everybody gets the chance to vote and have a say. Countries today have democracy, which gives freedom and always allows people to take part in deciding their future. Democracy has brought some positive outcomes. It allows individuals to freely express their opinion without fear of being silenced.
Citizens can hold leaders accountable, at least in theory, through elections. A democratic system also encourages inclusiveness, like giving women, youth, and minority groups a chance to have a part in governance. In addition, democracy fosters transparency and openness, as government institutions are expected to be answerable to the people. These qualities are important for protecting human rights and preventing dictatorship, which often thrives on secrecy and oppression.
With someone having the advantage of democracy, I can't say the same for my country; I don't think my country is practicing democracy at all. As long as I can remember, it has not been the people's choice that has been ruling but a group of people's choice. That's what I've been ruling. If you try to voice out, you might be arrested.
I don't even talk about the last election that was held in my country because that was a total disaster. Where we are practicing, a military regime would have been better than what we are practicing and call it democracy. We can't even hold government accountable for anything.
If you go out to protest, you order the military to shoot the innocent civilians that are not even armed.
Except for the government having their own flaws, the people are also the problem too because if they stop taking peanuts from the government and stand up for their rights, this country will be better. What we have is dictatorship and paternalistic leadership. Democracy has not fully translated into improving the living conditions of the people; poverty, corruption, and insecurities still plague my country even though the regular elections we do have are just to fulfill our righteousness.
In my country, leaders are often being chosen by ethnicity, religion, and personal gain rather than merit and capabilities. In most cases elections are marred by violence, fraud, or manipulation, which, in my mind, undermine the very essence of democracy. The lost election postures internally in government because what's the use of standing under the scorching sun just for your vote not to count?
I know how people sell when their announcement was made. Audio, I hope you trust their belief was shattered. I still prefer this democracy because I believe that one day the right man will arise and help the people to stand on their rights, and we will all fight for the betterment of this country. Last election that was conducted last Saturday, nobody came out; everywhere was dry.
Finally, democracy is a tool. If you use it, it will build your nation, but if you misuse it, it will break everything. The system itself is good, but the people and the government practicing it need to determine if it's going to be good or bad.
