I love this week's prompt because it makes me remember my late grandma when she was alive. Taking care of aged people can be very challenging, especially if you start taking care of the stubborn ones.
My grandma has always loved me because I was her favorite child, so she transferred the love she had for my dad to me. She even asked that I live with her while I was young.
Which my parents agreed to without argument. However, she fell sick, and I needed to care for her at that young age. She refused a nurse to take care of her because they don't have my patience like me.
So I stay with her, doing the cooking, washing her clothes, and feeding her. At least then she can walk around on her own.Do some things on her own too. Until she became more serious than before, so my aunty had to pick her up, but she insisted that if I don't come along, she will die.
I followed suit because I love her, even though I knew that going to my aunt's house was a bad idea. But for her sake, I journeyed along. I will give her the drug to take; she will hide it under the bed and just drink water. At first, I didn't notice until one day I helped her to go outside and receive fresh air, only to come inside to clean her room and saw all the drugs that I used to give her.
I confronted her, and she said, 'did I die? I am her hale and hearty. It's not a drug that keeps one alive, it's God.'I try to convince her that it's God and these drugs that keep her alive, but she stubbornly refuses. I immediately threaten to leave and never come back since my efforts are not being appreciated.
She promised to take her medication, which she started doing but devised another means to frustrate my efforts by eating things she is not supposed to. Suddenly, she couldn't walk. I had to start cleaning her urine and feces every day. Lifting her up to bathe her was another problem. I became seriously sick myself, and she was taken to my uncle for care since I was sick, but she died there instead.
But I almost developed back pain and chest pain from carrying her out of the bed every day for one year. May her soul rest in peace.
