I've been of the thinking that pretty much anything we do with our smartphones is being tracked these days but I think I just experienced evidence that Google is actively listening to and transcribing my phone calls for feeding their personalization algorithms.
The incident is fairly innocuous I mentioned the city Paris a couple times in a phone call this afternoon and then about an hour later I received sports scores for Paris vs Monaco. I have absolutely no interest in these teams and don't even know what sport the score was for. I have not made reference to Paris in any way that I can remember for at least a few months until today in a phone call.
It's creepy but what is someone supposed to do to avoid being spied on by technology these days? Go without a smartphone? Trust Apple instead? Haha yea right. Are there any truly open source smartphone solutions out there that can be fully trusted? I think at this point we need to see open source hardware and software for peace of mind.
