When we were travelling my sunglasses (or sunnies as we call them here in Australia) broke in my suitcase. I had picked up a few too many things in our travels and when we were squashing the suitcase to get it closed the pressure snapped the sunnies.
No great loss; I bought them in an op shop (store that sells mostly second-hand items where the proceeds go to a charity) for some very small amount of money several months ago. The only thing about it that bugged me is that I had to find myself another pair! (That and I'm feeling slightly silly about packing so much stuff that we had to squash the suitcase in the first place. And I call myself a minimalist 🤦♀️).
Today's major work item was to record as many videos as I could stand for my next online course. I did lots. I talked til my throat hurt and begged to stop. Several bottles of water and teaspoons of honey later I finally stopped. They weren't all done but I knew it was going to take more than one day of recording anyway so I wasn't too fussed.
But I had promised myself that if I got "enough" done (whatever that means!) that I could go op shopping before Brad got home from work and search for a pair of new running sunnies. (To be clear, not sunnies that can run 🏃 but sunnies I can can wear while running 😅).
At 1pm I felt like I'd done a lot, enough to be proud of, at least and so I unlocked the garage, backed out the over sized car and drove the 10-15 minute drive to the nearest op shop in an area that has several.
There were two, very boring, not at all what I was looking for, sunnies. Boo.
But they had books. Lots of them. So I perused. Found three I loved. Paid $6 and left.
Next!
The traffic in this part of town is rubbish (except before sunrise, then it's great 😃) and so instead of being able to go to the very next op shop I wanted to go to (because I literally couldn't get across the lanes of traffic without causing an accident) I went the long way to turn around and... popped into a different op shop instead.
This one was even bigger than the last one (and the first one wasn't small!) and they had... two, totally boring pairs of sunnies, one of which was scratched. Poo!
But they books! Lots of them. And a special deal:
"Fill a bag for $10." Don't mind if I do!
So I perused. Found oodles of interesting books I was willing to consider reading, at some point, on a yet-to-be-determined date. And I left, carrying my full-to-the-top bag, awkwardly placing a hand underneath it in case it broke from all the weight 😆
By this stage I was ready to pee. There were signs in the last op shop that I swear were made specifically for my bladder that said, "No public toilet here." Bum!
So to honour my body and not make it wait any longer, and since I was hoping I might still manage to pick up some sunnies easily at one of the last two op shops on the main road home, I stopped off at the local library that has clean toilets that, thankfully, were open.
Feel a renewed sense of hope, I decided to swing into the LifeLine store and just ask if they had sunnies and stay the heck away from the bookshelves.
To my delight and surprise they did; two stands of new sunnies were right near the front door and I hadn't even seen them.
Approximately 7 minutes later I was walking out of there with my "Two for $12" brightly colored, hope-these-will-do-the-job sunnies.
What do think?! Which ones do you like better?
In hindsight, I think the pale green ones look much better on my face but the pink ones are a fun challenge for me to try something different and silly!
And for those who are more interested in the books than the sunnies, are there any books in my new hoard that you've read and adored??
I'd love to know! Tell me in the comments 👇
