Rampesteken is located in the beautiful small town of Andalsnes, Norway. It isnt one of the more well known hikes in Norway, and only one we came across by chance through the app Outtt (essential if you are in Norway and planning on hiking!) and is about 1.5 hours drive from Alesund. Although it isnt overly popular, I found it truly rewarding and one of the better views in Norway.
Although the climb is nearly vertical at times, it isnt an overly difficult or technical climb. However, it is hard on the legs and never gives up the whole way - we didnt stop to get any photos of us climbing like we do for other hikes. The hike is just over 500 meters elevation, with signs clearly marked every 100 meters. The first couple of hundred meters were fairly easy, but the more we climbed the more tired we got, and started going slower and slower.
Throughout the climb there are a few chains to help get up some of the more difficult pieces of terrain. The last 100 or so meters is a bit more tough (and scary) as there are steps and you can see the drop straight down! Its tough because this is the part of the climb where you are finally rewarded with the view, but looking out is a bit scary.
At the top there is a platform which you can walk out on to truly take in the view. It is obviously very safe, but is a bit scary walking all the way out on to. As can be seen in the picture the platform doesnt have a solid background, and so you see directly below - it was a bit creepy, but definitely worth it for the view!
From every angle it is a stunning view with wonderful mountains, fjords and rivers as far as the eye can see. Although not from the top but on the way up (or down) you can also get a good view of Andalsnes and the surrounding areas.
It was one of the easier climbs we did in Norway, but still offered up stunning views. A great hike if you only have a few hours. I would still recommend (as with every hike) taking supplies - food, water and a first aid kit at a minimum.
