A friend once wrote: “Self-discipline is the ability for to fry plantain without eating it till you finish the frying”-Isaac Sogo.
That’s his simple definition of self-discipline because he loves plantain so much but if I should define it, I will say self-discipline is the ability to fry fish without eating half of it while still frying.
My definition stems from the fact that I don’t really like plantain so if I refuse to eat plantain while still on fire, it doesn’t mean I am discipline because it means nothing to me but try me with fish and you may be surprised that you will have half your fish after the frying.
The idea behind the definition is the ability to do what is needful whether it is convenient or not convenient.
It is the ability to refrain yourself from doing the wrong because you know it is not the best.
It is the ability to keep yourself pure whether your emotions call or not
It is the ability to refrain from examination malpractice whether you know what to write or not.
It is the ability to overcome temptation from illegal money whether you have what to eat or not.
It is the ability to say the truth whether it hurts or not.
Will it be easy?
No, no one says so, that’s the reason it is called “self-discipline”.
Be a man/woman of integrity.
