A Valentines Day art show let me to reflect on those words and that I actually believed them at one strange, broken point in this life. I could not get rid of a sick, (broken too), violent, junkie boyfriend. I finally decided that it must be true love if every time I try to break up with him it ends up in violence and broken car windows.
How sick is that?! I am afraid it may happen more then we think... do not stay in a relationship if that person does not make you feel good, supported, respected, even adored.
We should not have to tell people that but for some reason it is more important to have ANY partner at all, so what if they are abusive...which can be very subtle... but i think you know when you know it's not right.
I was able to get out of that mess and begin the work on myself. I got sober and began a meditation and yoga practice. I learned to treat myself like a gift = love myself so I can be helpful to others and the world. Those dark times seem like they belong to a different person but i am happy to have gone through them, it makes me uniquely qualified in this life and super grateful . Today I still make my dark art and visit the shadows but I also make art about love and transformation and kicking ass. Thank you Steemers for allowing me to share! XOX
